FIRE IN FLAT
MUCH DAMAGE DONE BRIGADE’S QUICK WORK Fire broke out in a block of flats at the corner of Wallace and Sarsfield Streets, Ponsonby, early last evening. The brigade turned out promptly and it was under control in a few minutes, only one flat being damaged. The fire started in the flat owned by Nurse Lumley and this part of the building was very badly damaged. When th© alarm was given frightened people from the flats rushed out on to the lawn and a woman with a baby collapsed. The building holds 16 flats altogether and is mrjaaged by Mr. Mortimer*. At one time it was used as a Presbyterian Boys’ Home.
