Miss May Buchanan, of Dunedin, has arrived in Auckland and will leave next week by the Niagara for Vancouver, where her marriage is to take place. * * * Mrs. O. A. Jonson, of Wairoa, who came to Aucklaiul to meet her husband on his return from Honolulu, has been spending some days here before returning to her home. Mrs. C. A. Fraer, of Christchurch, president of the National Council of Women of New Zealand, arrived in Auckland to-day, en route for Honolulu to attend the Pan-Pacific Women’s Conference. She was accompanied as far as Auckland by Miss Rima Fraer. Both are the guests of Mrs. A. V. Fraer, Devonport. MASQUERADE BALL WAIUKU FUNCTION The plain and fancy dress hall heid by the Waiuku Ladies’ Hockey Club on Wednesday night prayed extremely successful. The grand march was a brilliant spectacle, the blaze of colour from the numerous fancy costumes making the scene a gay one. The -winning costumes were: Ladies’ most original, Mrs. J. H. CHILDREN'S PARTY TAKAPUNA BAND FUNDS A delightful programme, organised by Mrs. A. Blomfield and a committee was arranged for a children’s fancydress party held in the Takapuna Boating Clubhouse at Bayswater last evening, when a large number of childdr en was present. The proceeds were in aid of the Takapuna Band. Th© hall was attractively decorated and the children in costume made a gay scene. The prizes were presented by the Mayor and Mayoress of Takapuna, Mr. and Mrs. J. "Williamson. The costumes were judged by Mrs. Crosher and Miss B. Nettleton. prizes being awarded as follow: —Special prizes, Leslie Jack, as a silver moth, 1: Miss Findla3*, band, 2. Prettiest girls, Dalma Shulz. as a Hawaiian, 1, and Lois Ogilvie, as pierette, 2. The orphans’ orchestra, the Takapuna Band, and Mrs. Young and Mrs. Edmonds supplied the music.

BRIGHT CONCERT THE QUERY PLAYERS ‘ The Queries” concert party, of 14 Te Puke amateur players, gave their first concert to a full house in the Alliance Theatre on Thursday night. The stage was decorated with query marks in yellow on a black background. The company opened the concert with a chorus. The next item was a duet by Miss M. Kerr and Mr. J. O’Meara. Messrs. Ralfe, Gibbings, Persey and O’Mar'a gave a ditty on the Town Board members. Mr. Dudley Johnston appeared as a “Bolshie” and Miss M. Kerr gave a solo entitled “Michael’s Flute.” “Levin sky’s Wedding” was recited by Mr. W. Brown: a duet, “HouseHunting,” was played by Mir.s E. Cuff and Mr. J. Ralfe; and two monologues were given by Mrs. Gibbings. “AVillie Dolittle” (Mr. W. Brown) caused a great deal of laughter both by his acting and recitation. The last item was a scene in a women’s hairdressing parlour, Messrs. Ralfe and Gibbings being the “barbers.” Several local “lights” were imitated during the process of shaving. Mr. R. Urquhart, on behalf of the Library Committee, thanked performers for the good show they had put on and for their generosity in donating the proceeds to the library.

PRESENTATION A pleasing: function took place at the A.M.P. Society’s office on Tuesday, when a presentation of a tea service and other gifts was made to Miss Betty Robertson and Mr. H. W. T. Buckley, two officers who were married the next day. Mr. Francis, the manager, referred to their excellent service with the society, and the esteem in which they were held by their fellow officers.
