OPEN SPACE WANTED

CHANCERY STREET IDEA The possibility of keeping an open space where Tligh and Chancery Streets meet is being discussed by the City Council. Old buildings were recently moved, and the open space resulting appealed to the Town Planning Association, as one which should be maintained. The city engineer considered little would be "gained in further widening the roadway, but the Government might be approached to set back any building on the site of the old buildings, which is owned by it, thus giving a minimum of six feet for a footpath. , With regard to the acquisition of land in Chancery Street, east of Field’s Lane Mr. Bush recommended that an agreement should, if possible, be made with the owners concerned so that a new building could be adopted to facilitate widening the thoroughfare, a work for which there was no immediate hurry. 14 compensation had to be paid, the council should notify owners on the opposite side that it was intended to claim betterment. The Public Works Department has been asked for its consent to a new build-ing-line in regard to the widening of High and Chancery Streets.
