Jack Dempsey was present at the ringside, and thus eliminated the possibility of his acting as Heeney’s second, which proved that Tex Rickard’s statement was merely made to assist the ticket sales at the ringside. Odds were quoted 3 to 1 in Tunney’s favour, but with a. surprising amount of Heeney money in the fight. Bernard and John Mortimer, Heeney’s English managers, bet 11,50(1 dollars on, the challenger at these odds.
