MAJESTIC
“THE SMART SET” TO-MORROW
“Bringing Up Father,” the hilarious screen version of tlie famous newspaper cartoon, starring Farrell MacHonald, Polly Moran and Marie Hressler, will have its final presentation at the Majestic this evening, as will also “Jerry,” the fighting kangaroo, and “The College Widow,” the merry comedy of college life, which is included on the programme. To-morrow a programme extraordinary will be presented, with “The Smart Set,” one of the most exhilarating and original comedies seen for some time, as the chief pictorial attraction. Any one who has the impression that polo is a lady’s game will think differently after seeing “The Smart Set.” As played by William Haines, polo is a cross between a free-for-all pony and man fight, and an outstanding social event primarily for the benefit of hero-worshipping girls. From the time the whistle blows until the last thrilling goal, the game is calculated to keep spectators seething with excitement. But “The Smart Set” is not all polo. Keen struggle, romance, and an exceptionally appealing love theme blend into the colourful and exciting fabric of sport and fashion, to make one of the year’s outstanding pictures. Alice Hay, Jack Holt and Hobart Bosworth figure prominently in the splendid allstar cast of “The Smart Set,” while Jack Conway ably directed. A most delightful musical programme has been promised by Mr. Whiteford Waugh, with his Majestic Orchestra. Two Movements from “Symphony in F Major” (Beethoven), “Dialogue,” a flute and clarinet duet, “Wayside Sketches,” “The Midnight Dream” (Schlepegrell), “Rustic Revels” (Percy Fletcher), two latest fox-trots, “Didn’t I?” and “Oriental Dream Eyes,” and “Owl’s Lament” (Trinkaus), and “The Destruction of Atlantis” (the lost continent), are but a few of the musical numbers to be rendered. An additional attraction on the programme will be the reappearance of the popular Harris Sisters, “Mildred” and “Connie,” who will present an entirely new programme of mirth and melody.
Also on the programme will be an interesting Majestic News, with the world’s latest news, “Hepworth Curiosity,* a comedy, and a scenic film, “Launceston, the Beautiful.”
