“SADIE THOMPSON” AT GRAND
“Sadie Thompson,” which will be shown, for the last time at the Grand Theatre this evening, stars Gloria Swanson in a story of an outcast woman on a South Sea island. It is the story of a missionary, fanatical and domineering, determined that an outcast woman, played by Gloria Swanson, who is “possessed of devils,” and had already made herself at home with the marines on the island, to the accompaniment of a raucous-voiced gramophone, should be deported. The climax comes when the missionary, endeavouring to save Sadie’s soul, falls a victim to her charms. Next morning he is found, with his throat cut, on the very beach upon which he had forbidden the natives to dance. To-morrow the picture “Bringing IJp Father” will be screened at the Grand. This comedy is based on the famous newspaper cartoons of the same name.
