LYCEUM CLUB
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION The Auckland Lyceum Club's ninth annual celebration and birthday party j was held in the clubrooms last night, j when the rooms were decorated with ; spring flowers and green foliage. The j chief ceremony of the evening was the J cutting of the birthday cake, on which ; were nine lighted candles, and was performed by Mrs. W. H. Parkes, the president. During the last few years the club » had acomplished a great deal. Five years ago there had been a debt of ! £750, but now this and all debentures had been cleared off and £3,000 in- • vested. This birthday party is the ; last the club will have in the present ] rooms, as it is hoped that next year there will be better and more spacious rooms. During the evening an enjoyafr*? j concert programme was given. Miss McKenzie Aitken sang several songs, . accompanied by Mrs- R. Singer. Other items were:—Recitations by Mrs. I Scantlebury, instrumental items by the Moore trio, pianoforte solos by Mrs. ; Osborne, and a short three-act play, i “Powder, Rouge and Lipstick,” given i by Mrs. Bartley-Baxter and Mr. Fryer J Raisher. A song by Miss Etta Fields, 1 “Moon Canoe,” had been composed by | Mary. Brett (Mrs. Osborne), who accompanied her.
