MORE SOCCER TROUBLE
MANAWATU CLUB OUTSPOKEN “PARENT BODY DILATORY” Press Association PALMERSTON N.. To-day. At a meeting of the Manawatu Football Association last evening a letter was received from the St. Andrews Club, Manawatu’s contender for the Chatham Cup, drawing attention to alleged dilatoriness on the part of the New Zealand Council in notifying the Hawke’s Bay Association of the date of the Chatham Cup tie between the writers and Hastings United team. The Hawke’s Bay Association had only been notified on July 5 that the game was to be played on the 14th, and had very little time to make arrangements. It was also alleged that the tie could have been quite easily arranged for July 7. when the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union would have been willing to lend its ground, this showing the indifference of the parent body to minor associations. “The time is coming.’’ the letter added, “and it will not be too soon, when the minor associations will be compelled to form into a body to protect themselves. The parent association, when that comes to pass, will awaken to the fact that there are clubs and associations outside the big centres who have to be considered soon and not at some future time.’’ After a brief discussion it was dei cided to forward the letter to the New Zealand Council.
