OUSTING THE STEAMER BRITAIN’S BUILDING SHARE (United P.A.-—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) (United Service) Reed. 9.55 a.m. LONDON, Tuesday. The continued progress of Internal combustion engines Is indicated in Lloyd’s shipbuilding returns for the quarter ending June 30, not only by the fact that 1,500,000 tons of motor-ships are being constructed throughout the world (compared with 1,139,000 tons of steamers) but also that the construction includes 65 motor-ships of 8,000 tons upwards, contrasted with 21 steamers of similar size. The total construction in British shipyards at present it 1,203,000 tons, representing a reduction of 238,000 tons compared with the previous quarter. Britain is now producing 45 per cent, of the world’s ships against 57 per cent, before the war.
