POLICE VIGILANCE
ALL SHIPS WATCHED SEVERAL CHARGES PENDING Since Buckley escaped from prison the police have carefully watched all possible channels of escape from New Zealand. . . When the recaptured man arrives in Auckland, probably to-morrow morning, he will be charged with breaking and entering premises at Birkenhead and at TLumarunui. It is surmised that he was implicated in a recent series of breaks at Taumarunui, and will be charge/ accordingly. Sine* Buckley escaped from Auckland t/e police have carefully watched evt»ry steamer which has arrived at polls in the Dominion from the time they oerthed until they sailed again. Wi en the Aorangi departed for Sydney Dn Monday warders from Mount Edeo Gaol and detectives to the number of six watched the vessel and searched her from stem to stern before she sailed.
Every other vessel has been watched with the utmost vigilance at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin, as it was known to the police that Buckley was trying to get away to Au?»t*~ilia. CROWD WAITS FOR BUCKLEY A large crowd waited at the railway station this morning expecting to see Buckley arrive by the Limited. The police van was drawn up outside the station and was surrounded by a morbidly-interested crowd which had gathered there to obtain a better view* of the recaptured man. A woman in the crowd seemed to be unduly excited and ran around in a bewildered sort of way. Other spectators took up vantage points along the ; wooden fence dividing the platform
