League Rumy

Notes amici Comment.

Enter Rep. Football After enjoying a series of interesting, even thrilling club games, the Rugby League fans of this city are about to witness a string of representative fixtures wjiich promise to make this season a record one for both the New Zealand League and the Auckland League. * * * On Saturday next the first of the series of representative matches, which will put club football off the map for at least five weeks, will take place, when Auckland will defend the Northern Union Challenge Cup, which it regained for South Auckland a few weeks ago, against th© Canterbury team. * * * This Canterbury Team Rumours come from the South that the Canterbury team to be seen in action at Carlaw Park on Saturday is better than has been fielded on previous occasions, and Auckland will hav© a hard fight to retain the honour of being the champion team in the Dominion. To this, however, keen fans of the code in the City cannot see the Auckland reps, go down.

Jim Parkes Aga’in Jimmy Parkes, the old Richmond skipper, is coaching the Southern team, and it will certainly be pleasing to both players and fans to see Jimmy once more in Auckland. Further, it will be quite interesting to see what this ex-All Black Leaguer has done with the Canterbury thirteen, of which so much has been heard. * * * Competition Interesting Although fans are simply aching to see representative games and the famous English Leaguers in action, many do not like the idea of having to wait weeks before seeing more club football, now that the senior championship competition is at such an interesting stage. Taking into consideration that in Payne and Peckham, the Blue and Blacks were without the services of two representative players, and in Syd. Usher, who is suffering with a bad knee, one so near to rep. honours that it makes no odds, they were certainly seriously handicapped. Payne is still out of action with his injured ankle, while in a recent game Tim Peckham had his neck ricked and just yet it is a bit on the sore side for him to go frolicking about.

Some Kick! Newton had been awarded a free kick. The veteran Dufty had the ball, and Ellerslie was two points ahead. Placing it ever so carefully he ran and kicked. The ball soared on its way, to shoot down fairly and squarely between the props. “A great goal,” the crowd cried, until it realised before Dufty did himself, that it was the wrong goal. It is not the first

time that neighbouring goal posts'have been confused on the Domain, but a smile soon banished the look of mortification that lit the veteran Newtonian’s face.

It Was a Pity! Spectators had much to amuse them at the Domain on Saturday. The Bllerslie and Newton forwards w T ere mixing a fair amount of the pugilistic art with their football. On the side-line there stalked up and down with the run of play a veritable walking gramophone. He was an Ellerslie supporter and evidently had heard of Dufty before. “Why, I played with him 25 years ago,” he shouted. Much more amusement was the result when, seeing Clark between the posts, he re-
