“ONLY TWO WHISKIES”

INDENT AGENT FINED £lO “Only two whiskies” cost Charles Harold Davies, aged 36 years, an indent agent, or Auckland, £lO and costs at the Police Court this morning. Davies, who was remanded from last Monday was charged with being intoxicated in charge of a motor-car in Victoria Street. For defendant Mr. G. P. Finlay, said that Davies had been to an evening at Herne Bay, where he had consumed two whiskies, one just before leaving. Coming down Victoria Street in the height of the storm, visability was bad and Davies had made a mistake: bumping into the back of a car parked at the roadside. “The damage was not great,” continued counsel, “in fact, the owner of the car said he had it repaired for two nickles. I do not know how much that is, but it cannot be more than £2.” Mr. Finlay said that Davies had been in ill-health for some time. Sub-Inspector McCarthy admitted that Davies was not drunk but urged that he was too intoxicated to be in charge of a car.
