APARTMENT HOUSE DAMAGED BY FIRE
FIVE ROOMS GUTTED DEVONPORT OUTBREAK Five unoccupied rooms in a liuvestoreyed house at 7 May’s Street. J>evonport, were gutted by fire early on Saturday evening. The house, owned by Mr. 11. U. Glow, was a 22-roomed one. subdivided into apartments. The house is one of the largest in the borough, and as the fire was on tlio top lloor, the brigade had great difficulty in getting it under control. When the firemen arrived flames were coming from the front and side windows, ami the houses at the side, which stand very close, were in some danger. Afetr an hour’s fight the fier was subdued, the five rooms on the top storey being gutted and four others on the same floor being damaged by smoke and water. The lower floors were practically unharmed. Nobody was in the house at the time, so that the cause of the fire is unknown. Mr. and Mrs. Clow were In the city and did not return til. he fire was out.
