FUN OF THE FAIR AT WINTER EXHIBITION

CHILDRENATTRACTED GOOD FINANCIAL RETURN The fun of the fair is attracting large crowds to the Auckland Winter Exhibition at the Central Wharf. To date there is an advance of £IOO in the gate takings compared with receipts from last year’s show. The revenue obtained for the first four days, however, falls short of that for the 1926 show. At least 25,000 people have attended to date. The crush on Saturday night, in particular, was enormous. To-day the show was visited by large numbers of school-children who made a thorough inspection, and concluded by carrying away every available sample on display. The youthful visitors were in the charge of their teachers, and were conveyed to and from Queen Street in special tramcars. Much interest was centred this afternoon, especially on the part of the children, in the free cinema, where New Zealand scenes, supplied by the Government Publicity Department, were a prominent feature of the bill. A demonstration with dairy cattle, on similar lines to that held on Saturday, was an item of considerable interest to farmers. SATISFIED WITH TAKINGS To date £1.671 has been taken at the gates. The four days resulted: Wednesday, £153; Thursday, £261, Friday, £391; Saturday, £866. “We, are very satisfied with the attendance to date,” says the manager (Mr. J. L. Findlay), who considers that Auckland has every reason to feel j proud of its annual winter exhibition. The Pio Pio Dairy. Company, winners of the Weddel Cup, and manufacturers of Sunshine butter, were presented with the coveted trophy at luncheon given by W. and T. Avery.
