DOG UPSETS CYCLIST
SEVERE HEAD INJURIES MOTORIST’S PROMPT STOP A small dog caused a young man, Mr. David Briggs, of Hinemoa Street, Devonport, to have a bad fall from his bicycle and to receive fairly severe injuries. In company with two other cyclists, Mr. Briggs was riding down Old Lake Road and when near Narrow Neck Beach a dog ran into the wheels of the cyclist, causing him to fall heavily on to the concrete road. A car driven by a young man from Birkenhead was approaching at the time, and it seemed as if he must run over the fallen cyclist, but with great celerity he jammed on his brakes and pulled up without hitting the fallen man, but with one wheel actually touching his head. The cyclist was badly cut and bruised about the head, and was taken to Dr. Bennett, and after attention was taken home, and subsequently removed to the Auckland Hospital. The dog was killed.
