LORRY'S FATAL PLUNGE

Maori Woman Killed DRIVER OF VEHICLE ARRESTED (From Our Own CorrcspondentJ TE AROHA, To-day. A MOTOR-LORRY containing' eight Maoris ran over a steep bank at Waihou on Saturday evening. Mrs. Heria Turawahio, aged 19 years, was killed. The others escaped injury. The driver was subsequently arrested on a charge of being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-vehicle.

The motor-lorry driven by John Walker, and containing Mrs. Turawahio and seven other Maoris was returning to Waharoa from Waihou. Shortly after leaving the latter township it suddenly ran off the road and plunged down a steep bank 30ft to a swamp below. Mrs. Turawahio was killed, and the others escaped injury, although one Maori girl was pinned down by the head until assistance arrived. The
