GIVEN UP TROTTERS
RIDDLE’S NEW TASK GREAT TEAM OF GALLOPERS A trainer who approaches the new season with a powerful and expensive team of yearlings is Peter Riddle, who recently deserted trotting to take up the training of thoroughbred gallopers, says a Sydney writer. His string embraces 10 youngsters whose total cost was in the vicinity of £7,000. Thu team consists of the following;—Vestige, ch c, by Valais—Lady Egale. owned by Mr. Bob Miller, cost l,2oogn> Retrospect, ch c by Rosendale—Tregonv, owned by Mr. Percy Miller, cos: l,6oogns; Verbiage, b c by Valais— Waianui, owned by Mr. Percy Miller, cost l.GOOgns; Jean Margo, ch f by Saltash—Queen of Trumps, to be rac< ! by Mr. Frank Moore. Chatelot, br f by St. Anton —Chatelaine, owned by Mr. Percy Miller, cost 500gns; Magnifier.
br c by Magpie—Lady Eva, owned by Messrs. P. Miller and P. Riddle; black filly, unnamed, by Magpie—Merry Margaret, owned by Mr. H. J. Cameron, of Moree; bay gelding by Magpie—Welcome Queen, owned by Mr. Percy Miller; b c by Woorak —Triselk, owned by Mr. Percy Miller, cost 325gns: Landscape, b c by Sarchedon —Sweetland, owned by Mr. Bob Miller. They are a much-admired collection. If one is praised more than the others it te the Valais colt named Vestige, a striking chestnut with white markings, who, although he was a late foal, shows promise of rare development and moves like a racehorse in the mild ex<%cise he has already taken. Magnifier looks much older than the average yearling. He was bred by the Randwick trainer Alf Foley, and soM cheaply last January. He has the strongly-developed head and neck that formed Windbag’s striking characteristics. The rest are such an evenly good lot that their trainer can look forward with high expectations to bis first season as an A.J.C. trainer.
