FROZEN JUSTICE
HAMILTON JURY COMPLAINS SHOCKING COURT CONDITIONS (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, Friday. “It is not right that we should be allowed to sit and freeze here and at the same time be expected to give close attention to the evidence,” said the foreman of a jury at the Hamilton Supreme Court this week, protesting at the inadequate heating of the courtroom. Mr. Justice Blair, who was on the Bench, promised to lay the complaint at the right quarters. The jury bench is situated on the wall opposite the fireplace, and the complaint made is only one of a shoal of protests at the shocking conditions under which justice is dispensed in tho chief town of the Waikato. Bad accommodation, poor lighting, unduo noise from the main street outside, and an unsightly building belonging to the Victorian period; have resulted in many complaints being made in the last five years from the Borough Council, the Law Society and other bodies interested. Mr. Coates, when in Hamilton a few weeks ago, promised to have arrangements for a new courthouse finalised as soon as possible. __
