NOTES

Experience has shown that early ploughing is almost as essential on light land as it is on heavy land. Phosphoric acid imparts general vigour to plants, particularly in the early stages of growth and assists in the development of flowers and seed. Waikato-manufactured dried milk powder is now being distributed in Japan for the use of Japanese infants. Rainbouillet sheep have been bred on a Government owned farm at Kainbouillet, France, 139 years ago. Three types of sheep, extremely wrinkled, intermediate and fairly smooth, are maintained. The farm is also used as a school for sheep-breeders and shepherds. Heavy retentive soils, if systematically limed, need no application of potash. Light soils, however, are deficient in this ingredient, with the result that, unless some concentrated form of potash is added, it will be noticed that root crops and potatoes in particular, will not produce good yields.
