MR. VERNON IRVING Mr. Vernon Irving died at Wellingion yesterday after a brief illness. He was born in Kent, England, in 1872, father being the late Captain Irvlnß>» w ho served in the Indian Mutiny. Mr. Irving was widely known in the city as the Wellington manager of the Yorkshire Insurance Company, since J 917. Prior to his arrival in New Zealand he Wits for many years surveyor for the Liverpool, London and Globe Insurance Company, in London. Mr. Irving only recently returned from a trip to England. MR. JAMES ANDERSON The death of Mr. James Anderson occurred at his residence, Moeraki, Otago, yesterday. ‘Mr. Anderson, who was 67 years of age, was the eldest son of the late Mr. George Anderson, one of the earliest settlers on the tltago Peninsula. At an early ago he joined the lighthouse service, and after a term as as-sistant-keeper in various lighthouses he was raised to the position of principal, and in this capacity was successively in charge for various periods of Practically every station on the New Zealand coast. He retired in 1925, having completed 38 years in the •service. He is survived by his widow, lour daughters and one son. Mr. Ivan Anderson, assistant-inspector of fisheries in Auckland. SLA CAPTAIN’S DEATH CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. The death of Captain James Henry Smith has occurred at the ag© of 78. He was forfherly in the employ of the Northern Steamship Company and the *[• J- Craig Line. For some time he been at Christchurch in business.
