WINTER EXHIBITION
ENTRIES CLOSE TO-DAY NEW RECORD EXPECTED This evening marks the closing date for entries for the Auckland Winter Exhibition, which is to open on July 11, and preparations are being carried out to an extensive degree. “When the entry numbers are available,” an exhibition official told The Sun to-day, “we expect that a new record will be established. The entries in the butter section are slightly better than last year, although there is a small falling-off in the cheese entries. There is no doubt that there will be a fine display of dairy produce, and arrangements are also being completed for a comprehensive showing of record-producing dairy stock. In this line no support has come from one or two of the breeds, and it is unfortunate that Shorthorns will not be represented. However, a showing of excellent high producers is assured.” EXHIBITORS SEEK SPACE Space on the Central Wharf, where the exhibition will be held for 10 days and nights, has been keenly sought by exhibitors, and in the industrial department the committee and the manufacturers have been alive to the educational value of showing manufacturing machinery in action. An invitation to open the display has been made to the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, Prime Minister, and in the event of his being unable to attend, it is expected that another Minister will be present. East Coast farmers have been considered in train arrangements, and a special is to leave Taneatua at 9 a.m. on July 12, arriving at Auckland at 7.15 p.m. Work on the exhibition space has already begun, and the area between the two wharf sheds is being covered.
