LORD EVERSLEY DEAD British Official Wireless RUGBY, Saturday. The death has occurred of Lord Eversley, who, as George Shaw-Le-fevre, was a prominent Liberal politician for over half a century and a member of the Cabinet in Queen Victoria's reign. He was in his s*th year. The late Lord Eversley, formerly George John Shaw-Lefevre, was i*orn in June, 1831. From 1863 to 1885 he was Liberal M.P. for Leading, and from 1885 to 1895 sat for Central Bradford. A Civil Lord of the Admiralty in Earl Russell’s Cabinet of 1865, he moved the resolution on the “Alabama” debt dispute, which led to arbtitration being resorted to. He was secretary of the Board of Trade under John Bright and carried through the General Tramways Act. Then as Post-master-General he brought in the Bill giving Britain the sixpenny telegram. He was a Minister in all the Gladstone Cabinets. After leaving the House of Commons he was for a time a member of the London County Council- He was raised to the peerage in 1906 as Baron Eversley of Old Ford, in the County of London. He was married to a daughter of the third Earl of Ducie. He has left no heir. The “Father” of the House of Lords, lie was one of the la =;t two survivors of Gladstone’s first administration* .
