MOUNT MORGAN FLOOD DAM SMASHED AT MINE MORE LIVES LOST (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) Reed. 9.5 a.m. BRISBANE, To-day. IMMENSE flood damage occurred at the Mount Morgan Mine. The dam broke following ten inches of rain on Friday, and the water rushed into houses and shops. The residents spent a night of terror, and looked upon a scene of desolation next morning.

Gas mains were exposed, fences were down, debris and furniture were floating everywhere. Two more are reported drowned— Thomas Major, aged 8, Gvaceville, and Kathleen Duffy, a girl, near Rockhampton. The flood danger is now past. When the downrushing flood waters in the Brisbane River met the incoming tide yesterday the stream rose 10ft 9in, practically four feet below the record height in 1908. The municipal floating baths broke from their moorings and struck the steamer Moreton Bay, and also the railway wharf at Kangaroo Point.

They then carried a yacht away and fouled th*e hulk of the steamer Bingera. The baths were smashed and the sections piled on the shore near the river mouth. Thirteen inches of rain fell at Rockhampton in 24 hours. The Fitzroy River rose alarmingly, and the wharf is under water. William Weston was drowned in Frenchman’s Creek. ORAMA DAMAGED Reed. 10.15 a.m. SYDNEY, To-day. The liner Orama, which was damaged in the Brisbane River during the floods, has reached Sydney, and goes into dock. Her departure has been delayed until May 1.
