GRUESOME FIND
BABY’S BODY IN PARCEL LEFT IN RAILWAY CARRIAGE When a railway official opened a brown cardboard box at the Lost Luggage Office this morning,, he found the body of a baby, wrapped in several sheets of paper. gruesome parcel had arrived from 'Wellington by the first express this morning. It is the second of its kind to be found at the Auckland Railway Station during the last six months. The parcel containing it was found by the search porter after the passengers had left the first express from Wellington early this morning. It was lying under a seat in a second-class compartment. The porter took the cardboard box to the Lost Luggage Office, where its peculiarities aroused the suspicions of one of the officers in charge. It was decided to open the package, and the dead baby was found, wrapped in several sheets of brown paper and an oilsheet. Each wrapping of paper was securely tied with string. There were no distinguishing marks on any of the wrappings or the box. The baby had evidently been dead some days. The police have been informed, but. it will be difficult to trace the origin of the parcel, as all the passengers had left the station before the discovery was made.
