FOOTBALL MAKES EARLY START THIS SEASON
Seldom does the football season in Auckland start before the month of
May. This year, however, all three codes are getting “under way” much earlier. Soccer had its preliminary last Saturday, when the senior teams took the field, but to-morrow the lower grades will also turn out. Rugby League is staging four senior games at Carlaw Park to-morrow, in conjunction with the R. Stack Benefit Carnival, but the code’s season will not officially open until April 28, when Rugby Union football also makes an official start.
KEATHER FOR DUCKS
It has been said that every athlete excels at one sport. Poor cricketers are good Rugby players, and so on. If recent showers are any criterion of what may be expected for the opening of the Rugby season, cricketers who have recently specialised in ducks should find themselves in their element. __ —.
