"MEAN SORT OF THEFT"
SCHOOL BOYS ROBBED OLD MAN SENT TO PRISON John Collie, aged 59. told the magistrate to-day that he found seven empty purses under a prickly bush in the Domain. He was not believed. Collie appeared at the Police Court to face seven charges of stealing purses, railway tickets and money from a pavilion in the Domain. Chief-Detective Hammond said that accused had gone through the pockets of some Grammar School boys, who were training in the Domain. Accused denied the charges, saying that he had found the purses under a prickly bush while he was looking for bottles on a Sunday morning. | “It was a mean sort of theft.” said the magistrate, as he sentenced aei cused to two months’ imprisonment..
