NATIVE NOMADS
FEW IN AUSTRALIA ABORIGINAL POPULATION By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright. Reed. 11.30 a.m. SYDNEY, To-day. According to a return issued by the Commonwealth Bureau of Census, the number of full-blooded aborigines last: year was 59.945, compared with 59,296 in 1926. In 1925 the number was 62,394. Figures relating to half-castes point to a steady increase in their number, averaging about 1000 yearly, the number last year being 15,468. About 10,000 full-blooded natives are in European employ. There are upwards of 4,000 balfcastes in Queensland. There is a marked t.endency to gather aborigines into the Government mission stations. Only about 14 per cent, lead 'nomadic lives.—A. and N.Z.
