TAKAPUNA FIXTURE

TRIALS AT ELLERSLIE THIS MORNING'S GALLOPS In view of the Takapuna races on Saturday and Monday, training operations at Ellerslie this morning held more than the usual interest. The course proper (about 12 feet out) and the tan were the tracks in use, while the No. 2 grass was also available. COURSE PROPER Beau Cavalier, in preparation for his engagement in the Highweight Handicap on Saturday, travelled over nine furlongs, but was nqt ridden out. The ‘chaser was wearing plates and covered the first three furlqngs in 41 4-5, for seven registered!.3s 4-5, the complete distance not being timed. Salamnder and Ahi Ngaro were partnered over seven furlongs, taking 1.38. The pair were practically on terms at the finish, but Salamander appeared to easily hold his companion. Winsome Boy and Acushla jumped out from the new flve-furlong barrier and ran home in 1.4. The former appeared to be going the better. and The Lover moved over six furlongs, registering 1.81 1-5 for that effort. Piet was going much easier than his companion. King Emerald was hard held to keep with Gold Money over half a mjle in 55. The former is very well at present and his performances at Takapuna will be watched with interest. Bombarder easily beat Palmares over five furlongs in 1.5 3-5. Mon Star and Merxcis, who finished on terms, appeared to be doing it well at the end of three furlongs, but were not timed. The latter, one of E. George’s team from New Plymouth, is a promising two-year-old. Catonian moved, smartly over half a mile in 52 4-5, and could have done better if required to. His prospects at Takapuna are considered to be bright. With each gallop she has had Storm Fiend is showing an improvement. In company with Cynthia N. she was sent over six furlongs in 1.26 3-5, and there was not much between the pair at the finish. Again Princess Ronnie was responsible for a very pleasing effort—this time over seven furlongs. The first furlong was run in 13. two in 24 2-5, three in 38, half a mile in 51 3-5, and the complete journey in 1.29 2-5. Kelso, with Survey as a mate, was eased up over the concluding stages of a six-furlong task, which took 1.22. Survey refused to gallop at any part of the journey. THE TAN Sir Roseberry was not bustled to cover six furlongs in 1.25. Judge’s Box finished well ahead of Town Guard at the end of six furlongs in 1.21 4-5. The initial three furlongs took 38 4-5. War Officer had a slight advantage of Abbey Day at the finish of five furlongs in 1.8 3-5, the last half-mile taking 63 1-5. Mint Leaf, with a light-weight up, reeled off six furlongs in 1.22 2-5, and appeared as if he could have improved upon that time. NO. 2 GRASS Memsahib, who will soon be at her best, gave a fair display by getting over six furlongs in 1.19 2-5. Yaqui, the surprise at the Ellerslie meeting a few weeks ago, ran six fur-

longs in 1.18 3-5, the last half mil© taking 52. SimpHeifus (Sharkey) and Lord Guy (Rae) were given a lesson over two pony hurdles. Lord Guy jumped in good style, but at the second attempt Simplicitus rapped the obstacle hard. Nola Night (Hastings) made her debut over three pony hurdles.' With the exception of the last one, she negotiated them admirably and appears as if she will make good over the sticks. A large number of horses, mostly comprised of two-year-olds, were given a schooling lesson at the barrier. The youngsters gave a good display, jumping out smartly on both occasions.
