PAKURANGA SOCIAL CLUB
FANCY DRESS BALL On© of the most successful functions yet held by the Pakuranga Social Club took place in the Public Hall on New Year’s Eve, when close on 150 couples gathered to bid farewell to the departing year arid welcome in 1928. It was a very enthusiastic ceremony. The hall had been especially arrayed for the occasion, and presented a very gay spectacle, being heavily draped with multi-coloured streamers, twining in all directions. The dance music was supplied by Miss Strong and Mr. Benns, and a couple of pleasing extras were supplied by Messrs. Edwards and Nelson. A large number of the gay gathering attended in fancy dress, for which prizes were donated. The women’s prize was awarded to Miss Leedez, as an Egyptian, and the men’s trophy went to Mr. A. Roberts, in the guise of a parson. The judging was in the capable hands of Mr. and Mrs. Bekker, who donated a trophy for the woman present in best evening dress. This was awarded to Miss Edna White, who wore a very dainty frock of musk green crepe de chine, with insets of silver lace, and very prettily trimmed with tiny pink rosebuds. The duties of M.C. were ablv carried out by Mr. C. Connelly.
