STATE COSTS TOO HIGH IN PUBLIC WORKS
In a comparison over a period of many years and in the expenditure of hundreds of thousands of pounds, the Mount Eden Borough Council finds that the public tender method of executing public works invariably is more profitable than having it done by the State.
“We have done jobs worth hundreds of thousands,” said the Mayor of Mount Eden, Mr. E. H. Potter, to-day, “and actual experience has shown us that the Government cost is always too high. This is shown in road construction, building, and every other branch of public work we have undertaken. The supervision by the contractor is better, and the men he employs are experts.”
