POTATO SHIPMENTS

LITTLE BUSINESS IN SOUTH (Special to THE SUN.) CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. The only business done in potatoes is of a hand-to-mouth character, and it is just about finished as far as shipping is concerned, though Southern inquiries in small lots is still being met. There is little local business recorded, and this will continue to be so until larger supplies of new tubers reach the market. These are increasing every day, so old potatoes will soon be finished. Prices quoted this week are from £6 os to £6 10s on trucks, and an isolated sale at £7 has been reported. On that basis b.o.b. s.i. value would be about £7 10s, though the absence of any shipping makes it difficult to establish f.o.b. value. For April and June delivery the current quote is still 9os a ton f.o.b. s.i. There is little business to report, both buyers and sellers being cautious.

WAIHI GOLD COMPANY INCREASE IN CAPITAL The Waihi Goldmining Company has decided to increase its capital from £123,976 15s (issued) to £247,953 10s, by the capitalisation of the sum of £110,717 standing in premium-on-shares account and £13,259 15s credit balance from revenue account. This was decided at an extraordinary meeting of shareholders in London on December 1, according to advice received by the Auckland attorneys. The new shares will be issued in the proportion of one share for each share now held. A special circular will be issued later to shareholders who have expressed a desire to receive cash or debentures. The chairman, however, stated in his speech that in respect to the recent circular that there was a very large majority in favour of the new capitalisation, and if any who applied for cash or debentures would now prefer to take shares, the directors would be quite willing to meet them. A number of shareholders on the London register had so amended their applications. The confirmation meeting will be held on December 16.
