Attempted Suicide. —Richard Whittaker, aged 40, charged at the Police Court to-day with attempting to commit suicide, was ordered to pay cost.' and made subject to a prohibition order. Struck by Loading Hook.—A waterside worker on the Port Hardy, Georg* Ferroli. was struck by the hook of crane about 7.30 last evening- He wa.- ! taken to the Auckland Hospital by th* f?t. Girl Knocked Down. —Miss Lena Anderson, aged 24, was knocked down in Queen Street, near Victoria Street, by a motor-car last evening. She was taken to the Auckland Hospital by the St. John Ambulance, suffering frjom shock and abrasions. Her condition this morning was improving. Miss Anderson lives at 110 Nelson Street. Injured by a Gate.—Struck by a gate blown back on him by a heavy gust, J. Nelson, a caretaker at Palmerston North, was knocked unconscious early on Sunday morning. He was taken to hospital with a wound about four inches in length above one eye, and an injury to the back of his head. He will probably remain there for some days.—Press Association. Gaming Charge Dismissed. —Charges against James Hassall and Albert Henry Chunn, of keeping a common gaming house were dismissed by Mr. W. Meldrum, S.M., in the Police Court at Grej'mouth on the ground that there was no evidence of actual betting having occurred. The polii- • therefore withdrew charges against 12 other men found on the premises.— Press Association. _ Stern Posts for Museum. —The tu ■ carved stern posts of canoe* recently secured by Sir James Parr in London from the Alliance Insurance Co.. in whose possession they had been for 3»» years, were shown last evening to members of the Auckland Institute and Museum. The Curator, Mr. Gilbert Archev. said that nothing was known about them, though they were most interesting examples. On displaying them in the museum, however, he hoped to be able to discover something of their history.
