WILD RUSSIANS

CONSULATE ATTACKED

REVOLUTION ANNIVERSARY By Cable —Press Association. — Copyright. Reed. 10.30 a.m. SHANGHAI, Mon. An attack on the Soviet Consulate was made by a thousand male and female Russians, who stormed the building, stripped it of its red bunting and forced an entrance. The Soviet Consular staff used firearms to repel the attack, and killed one and wounded six. The police, after a riot in the square, restored order, and stood by throughout the night. The incident was marked by unusual scenes. Women, screaming and tearing the Soviet flags in their rage, climbed outside walls seeking entrance by the windows. They hurled bricks at the windows, so that few remained unbroken. —A. and N.Z.

NATION REJOICES

GREAT FESTIVITIES MOSCOW, Sunday. The streets of Moscow are decorated and the city is illuminated by thousands of coloured lights, and there are special ballets and plays in the theatres in celebration of the 10th. anniversary of the revolution. But the snow is the most successful festival decorator, as the first snowfall of the winter occurred simultaneously with the arrival of trainloads of Communists and trade unionists, not only from every part of Russia, but of the world. The chairman of the Third (Communist) International, Bueharin, in a speech at the Opera House, said the October revolution had opened a new epoch in history. In spite of a certain stability, capitalism would never return to its pre-war position.

There are similar festivities and demonstrations in Leningrad and other cities.—A. and N.Z.
