AUCKLAND DIRECTOR OF FIJI EDUCATION

MR. J. CAUGHLEY APPOINTED

Press Association. , WELLINGTON, To-day. The Colonial Office in _ London, through the Governor of Fiji, having communicated to the Government of New Zealand that it was prepared to appoi-nt Mr. John Caughley, Directer of Education for Fiji, Mr. Caughley has intimated his acceptance. He leaves about November 20, and will be followed, after the first rainy season, by Mrs. and Caughley.

Mr. John Caughley was assistantDirector of Education in New Zealand from 1916 to 1921, and director afterwards. He recently went to Fiji, and reported on the education system,, the new appointment apparently being the outcome of this visit. He is a native Aucklander, having been born here in IS7I. He was educated at Napier Main School, and afterwards at the Canterbury. Victoria and Auckland Universities. He gained his M.A. degree in 1905, also the Bowen Prize, and had at that time established himself in rifle shooting, cycling and bowling circles. He taught at Hastings, Napier, and Wellington Training ‘College, and was finally headmaster at Christchurch West from 1910 to 1915.
