MR. A. E. BRAUND, Commodore Akarana Yacht Clul

The Akarana Yacht Club should benefit greatly from its election to the position of commodore of one of its older and most popular members, Albert Edward Braund. Tliis is not the

first occasion he has filled this important position. Twenty years ago he flew the ccmmodore’3 flag of the Ponsonby Cruising Club. It is therefore with the fullest confidence that Akarana voted She owner of Mavis B. its senior ffag >£- fleer for the coming season.

It was about 1890 that Mr. Braund first embarted on the Waitemata in open boats. Then, with his brother, he raced the 26footer Horo with considerable success. About 3 904 he was instrumental in having established the restricted class for 26-foot mullet boats. In this new class he was a successful competitor an the Emerald, holding the championship from 1905 to 1907. He looks back with pride to the splendid performance put up by his boat in the face -of heavy weal her during the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron’s first ocean race on a : 00mile course. In 1912 he sold the Emerald and acquired his present command, the fine launch Mavis B. He has had steam in her but has now reverted to oil. Mr. Braund has always been re idy to do his share and more of the l ard work of aquatics. In 1902 he was made vice-commodore of Ponsonby Cruising Club, and subsequently held the position of commodore for throe years. Then he joined up with North Shore Yacht Club, now Akarana, and has been associated with tnis club over since. For the last three years he has held office as rear-commodore, and his promotion last week was v ellmerited.

In his younger days Mr. Braund epresented Auckland in Rugby from 388 7-97. For five years he led his tide as an able and popular captain.
