YORKSHIRE’S HEAVY BUYING By Cable. — Press Association. —Copyright LONDON, Thursday. At the London wool sales there were catalogued 144,000 bales. The estimated sales, are:—Home trade, 76,000 bales; for export, 52,000. There were held 16,00.0 bales. Yorkshire took the bulk of the crossbreds, both greasy and slipes. German and Alsatian competition for the finer sorts of Merinos was very strong. Yorkshire also bought these keenly. Greasy combing: Merinos closed at full opening rates with a hardening tendency. Best scoured sorts appreciated throughout and are now about 5 per cent, above the July rates. Short and faulty Merinos are unchanged. Fine crossbreds are fully 5 per cent. up. Medium and low greasies are 5 to 7 h up and slipes 5 per cent. Lambs’ wool sold freely at unchanged Pl The Bradford tops market is fairly cheerful. Spot business is very small. Choicest salted New Zealand is quoted at 180 s to 182 s and exceptionally fine, 184 s; Australian 176 s to 180 s. Cheese prices are firm. New Zealand is quoted 104 s.
