WANGANUI DOINGS

CIVILITY AND KIOSK COMING NORTH ON TUESDAY PALETA AND H.B. GUINEAS (Special to THE SUN.) WANGANUI, Thursday,. After Civility leaves for Ellerslie text. Tuesday to fulfil her engagements at the Auckland Racing Club’s spring meeting, the Wanganui tracks will bear a very deserted appearance, as there will be nothing to test the watches with. This morning Paleta and Star Area left for Hastings, where they will take part in the Hawke’s Bay one-day fixture on Saturday. FINAL TRIAL Prior to departing they were given a final gallop on Tuesday, going over six furlongs on No. 2 track. There was a heavy dew on the grass, and the pair were well out, a fact whicli would make their time appear all the better They got away to a flat-footed start, running the first furlong in 15, but the journey took 1.21 3-5, which could have been improved upon, and was equal to about 1.17 under ordinary conditons on No. 1. Watts was on Star Area, and Paleta was ridden by C. Butler. Watts will be the pilot on both of Dwyer's charges at Hastings on Saturday. CIVILITY AND KIOSK

Shortly after, Kiosk (Watts) and Civility (Head) were associated over four furlongs the reverse way on No. 2 track. Both hit out well. Civility was a trifle slow to move off, but soon made up her leeway. They reached the end of two furlongs in 25, the next furlong occupied 12 2-5, and the four furlongs were covered in 50, both going well within themselves.

The pair will make the trip to Ellerslie next Tuesday. SMART FIVE FURLONGS

This morning, Civility was given an extended task over five furlongs the reverse way on No. 1 track, on which the grass had been cut. With the conditions favourable for setting a good pace, the mare cut out the first quarter in 25, and the next furlong taking 12 2-5, made the time for the three 37 2-5. The half-mile took 49 1-5, and the brilliant daughter of Elysian and Civilisation got to the end of her journey in 1.2 4-5, going very easily at the finish.

There is no doubt that she retains all her former speed, and if the tracks at Ellerslie are allowed to dry during the next week she will have something to say in the decision of the sprints at the Northern fixture. NO NOISE

Kiosk was also given a task this morning, four furlongs being the journey allotted the son of Tea Tray on No. 1 track the reverse way. The first quarter occupied 27 2-5, and the three furlongs 39 1-5, while the full journey took 52. Kiosk did mot appear to be affected in the wind when he pulled up, but the weather will have to be well in his favour if he is to be successful on the trip. He will go North with Civility on Tuesday.
