RACES AT ELLERSLIE ALL CLASSES CATERED FOR The Thames Jockey Club’s annual race meeting this year is to be held at Ellerslie, the dates fixed being October 29 and 31. In keeping with the occasion, a fine programme has been drawn up and owners and trainers are afforded a good opportunity of * capturing better stakes than if the meeting was held on the course at Thames. Mr. W. S. Spence is the secretary for the race meeting, and this is sufficient guarantee that the administrative side of the fixture will be all that could be desired. On the opening day the Goldfields Cup is the big event, this carrying with it a stake of £6OO, of which the winner takes £450. The distance is one and a-quarter miles, and as most of the handicap horses will be seasoned by the time the race comes up for decision the field should be a good quality one. The sprinters are catered for by the Flying Handicap, which, contrary to Ellerslie custom, is to be run before the principal event. The six-furlong race has a stake of £3OO attached to it. The first day ’s eight-race programme is completed with the following items: Thames Handicap Hurdles, of £2OO, two miles; Borough Handicap-of £lso’ seven furlongs, for horses that have not won a flat race of £l5O, or fiat races of the collective value of £400; Xursery Handicap, of £2OO. five furlongs, for two-year-olds; Thames Valley Handicap, of £250. seven furlongsPurin Handicap, of £l5O. one milen£ rt the Plains Handicap, of £250, one mile J? t n th fL second da y th « bill of fare is still sufficiently attractive to please owners.
