ROUGH PLAY IN LEAGUE

CASES TOO FREQUENT COMMITTEE ON WARPATH Referring to the incident m last Saturday’s big League game when two players commenced a stand-up fight, Mr. Davidson, at last evening’s meeting of the Management Committee of the Auckland Rugby League, asked if a member of the committee had power to report cases of rough play. The chairman, Mr. Rhodes, said that such a complaint could be lodged, but in any definite charge the opinion of the referee would have to be considered. “This particular incident should not go by unnoticed, and it is the League’s business to deal with such players,” said Mr. Davidson., Mr. C. Adamson referred to a similar incident which had happened in a junior match, and he was surprised to see the Referees’ Association pass the matter by. Mr. P. Barry said it was merely the duty of the League to put down rough play, which was altogether too frequent. It was decided to refer the matter to the Referees" Association for a report, and further to ask the Judicial Committee to dead with the report from the referees. OTHER ESUSINESS Correspondence was read from the Buller League relative to the Auckland League’s invitation to play a game in Auckland. Mr. W. Mincham, manager of the Auckland touring team, telegraphed that Buller would probably be prepared to play in Auckland provided the expenses of the team were met. Mr. Rhodes said it would cost over £2OO. It was decided to defer consideration until next Saturday, when a further communication is expected from the Buller League. A letter from the St. George Club, Sydney, stated that owing to the lateness of the season several of the best players could not make the trip to Auckland, and consequently it had been abandoned. The letter was rereceived. It was agreed, in the event of a draw in the Roope Rooster final at the call of time, that five minutes’ extra time be played each way.
