TRACK WORK AT WANGANUI

MASK’S FINE GALLOP GRAND KNIGHT IMPRESSES (From Oar Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, Thursday. So far this season training operations have been conducted after breakfast, but this morning several horses were exercised before breakfast. Owing to the wretched weather there were no serious tasks undertaken. Some heavy showers, accompanied by a driving southerly wind, delayed work for some time. Principal interest was taken in the time recorded by Grand Knight and Civility in their gallop. ALLOWAY PLEASES The first out was Alio way, and he, like all others doing fast work, was on No. 2 track, which was in good condition, though a trifle dead. He covered six furlongs in 1.22, the last five in 1.7 2-5. After covering the first three in 38 4-5, Aropeta covered four furlongs in 56 2-5, in good style. INTERESTING WORK OUT What was considered one of the best gallops recorded here this season, was put up by Damaris (B. H. Morris), Mask (J. Rowlands) and Thaw (J. Barry). The first furlong was traversed in 13sec, quarter 25 1-5, three furlongs 38 1-5, half-mile 51 2-5. five furlongs 65, the seven furlongs taking I. 3-5. Mask was a neck in front of Damaris, with Thaw a neck away. Mask’s form was impressive. Damaris will be Mr. Currie’s Guineas candidate. Whenuanui covered four furlongs in 53, the first quarter taking a shade over 26. ECLIPSE STAKES FAVOURITE All eyes were on Grand Knight (W. 11. Jones), and Civility (J. Head), when they came out to cover four furlongs. The former had an advantage of -over a length at the jump-off, and remained there to the post, doing it comfortably in 51 2-5, the first furlong in 12 4-5, and the quarter in 25 1-5. Grand Knight will be favourite for the Eclipse Stakes but Civility will not be a starter till the Avondale fixture. YY ild Pigeon and Mandarin were •ssociated over five furlongs in 65 3-5, tne first furlong taking 13 1-5. and the quarter 25 2-5. Wild Pigeon doing best. LYSANDER IN FORM Ly sander (B. Morris) and Co vent Garden (J. Barry) covered half a mile in 51 3-ssec, the former always being in front. Thp first furlong took 13 and the quarter 25 1-5. Mount Marta and Elysianor covered six furlongs in 1.21 3-5. Others to work were Great Charter, Doree, Huikai, Archon and several juveniles.
