WHANGAREI SCOUTS

A KEEN TROOP The Whangarei Boy Scouts Committee held its monthly meeting yesterday evening, when Mr. George Bourne presided over an attendance of Cubmistress Messant, Mesdames Meek and Hedges, Scoutmaster Ferguson, Assistant-Scoutmaster C. Bourne, secretary, Messrs. Fairburn and the Rev. Steele. Mr. H. Haynes, by letter, tendered his resignation as chairman of the committee. This was accepted with regret, and Mr. Bourne was elected to take over the position until the next annual meeting. The troop has for some time now felt the need of a trek cart. It has been decided that Mr. Ferguson make enquiries regarding obtaining the necessary materials for building one, so that the boys can construct it themselves. There are many boys in the troop holding the carpenter badge who should be quite capable of performing this task. The secretary was asked to procure distinguishing flags for the leaders of each patrol. The reports of the cubmistress and scoutmaster showed that cub parades are being steadily maintained at good strength, and the boys are keener than ever. Arrangements are being made to hold a social evening, so as to enable parents, boys and others interested to keep in close touch with the movement. Whangarei County Payments. —At the meeting of the Whangarei County Council to-day accounts passed for payment totalled £2,692 18s 7d, being allocated as follows:—Ridings account, £1,183 4s 8d; grants, £228 16s Sd; general account, £69 15s 8d; county main roads, £460 0s 8d; main highways, £575 15s Id; loan account, £lO5 17s 3d: Parahaki Domain account, £69 8s 7d.
