CYCLISTS ON FOOTPATHS

At the Onehunga Police Court this morning; Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., dealt " ith several offenders charged with riding bicycles on footpaths. C. Mason, a youth, said the grass 'v as too long in the Mount Smart roadway, so he saw no harm in driving; his horse and cart on the footway as “everybody was doing it.”

“Well, you’ll simply have to stop it,” interrupted Mr. Poynton. “You’ll pay 10s costs and £ 1 for the solictor’s fee.” Traffic Inspector Crichton told the bench that the road and path in Queen Street, Onehunga, were both in good condition, so there was no excuse why Robert Graham should ride his bicycle on the pavement. As Graham did not put in an appearance to explain his action, he has to pay a fine of 10s and 30s costs.

The Town Clerk of Onehunga (Mr. H. Yockney) personally caught Leslie F. Stroobant riding his bicycle on a footpath and a tine of 20s and 10s costs was imposed.

Charles W. Burton, for committing a similar offence, had tu pay 3os.
