TRANSPORT QUESTIONS

Sir, I should like to ask, through your valued columns, if Mr. Allum or Mr Ford can answer the following questions for the benefit of the ratepayers. The Tramway Company paid its shareholders dividends. Since the council took the tramway system over. Auckland has expanded about 20 per cent, consequently the tramways have also grown. How is it that the couneil cannot run them at a greater proht than the company? Who recommended the council to take over the buses, so as to keep the revenue in tr , amway system? What is the capital amount of the tramway system including the buses? What is the amount of yearly interest paid on the nofcTJL yy New Zealanders n . Z* I 'first preference in the st‘rvice ! What amount of the ratepayers’ money is donated to the Tramwav Umon .Social Club yearly, and why? \Yhat amount did the council pav for the two clubrooms for tlm men? What is the number of persons employed on the system now. and the number employed by the company? How many buses does the council own and how many are in commission? v\ hy are the long distance journeys to be dearer, seeing that the railways nave decreased their suburban fares, and are making more money? I think if the gentlemen can answer these questions the public and ratepayers generally may put more faith in the management. RATEPAYERS’ ATTORNEY.
