ROUGH RIDERS

WATCHED BY VETERANS At least two men received the thrill that only comes “once in a lifetime” recently when General F. R. McCoy, commanding- 3rd. infantry Brigade and Colonel J. C. McArthur, Chief of Staff at Fort Sam Houston, saw the “second battle of San Juan Hill,” and bridging the gap of twenty-eight years saw, as wl th the detached view-point of the astral plane, the re-enactment of that m 2? rlc engagement. The occasion was the filming of the charge of the Rough Riders and sup*>™ng troops as the climax in the pattle scenes being made there by ictor Fleming for the Paramount proauction “The Rough Riders.” From the vantage point of “Kettle Hill” opposite “San Juan” General McCoy and Colonel McArthur witnessed again the advance of the blue clad infantry in the middle distance, while their immediate foreground they itnessed the charge of the Rough Jtiaers as they tore down the hill amid ne bursting of shrapnel and then on the opposite slope, regimental colours whipping in the breeze and the \ Roosevelt’s hard riding, hard shooting, hard fighting riders yelling like mad- t mon and proving that they could fight °n foot as well as they could ride. \t eneral McCoy and Colonel McArthur were lieutenants in those ays, General McCoy but shortly out of v vest Point—but the pictures was still 1 memory. So accurately lad been reproduced the setting of San K? n that General McCoy was a ole to point out the spot where he had oeen wounded, and Colonel McArthur stirred to reminiscences of personal experiences that had occurred to nira during that engagement.
