LORRY OWNER FINED £2O
PENALTY OF NEGLECT HEAVY traffic licences are ex--r-L pensive but necessary luxuries for the owners of big motor-lorries. The £2O fine which Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., imposed on David Lye in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday bears this out. Lye, had not troubled to license his heavy lorry since March 31, and his neglect cost him £2O and a conviction. His driver, Francis Renwick, was relieved of £ 1 for each of his two mistakes, driving the unlicensed vehicle, and showing an obsolete indication disc. Prendergast Bros, were fined a total of £ 5 for a similar set of offences, and C. P. Steven for similar neglect, but under different circumstances forfeited £3. Thomas Geoffrey Evison. for driving an unlicensed motor-lorry was fined £3. and for exhibiting an indication disc for an expired licene lie parted with another £l. His father, as part-owner, was fined £1 for allowing him to use the unlicensed lorry.
