Mr Harry Ferguson, the new inspec- ' f or the S.P.C.A.. has arrived in Auckland and has taken up his duties with the society. Mr S. Jenkinson, designing engineer New Zealand Railways, arrived from We'lington by the Limited this morning and is staying at the Star Hotel. The Rev. M. Miller, of Point Chevalier Presbyterian Church, has accented a call from the Presbyterians of Helensville. The induction will take place on September 7. Messrs. J. A. Lee, W. E. Parry, C. E Macmillan and W. J. Jordan, M.P.'s, returned by train to Wellington last evening. Mr. Walter Kirby, the Auckland tenor, who has been settled in Melbourne f or some years, has been elected a life governor of the Melbourne Hospital, in recognition of his work for that ’institution. jjr. A. M. Elliffe, 13. A., was licensed in the ministry by the Auckland Presbytery last evening. The service was conducted by the Moderator, the Rev. B Barton, and a prayer of dedication Was offered by the Rev. L>. C. Herron. The Leader of the Opposition, Mr. H. E. Holland, met with a slight accident in Marlborough at the week-end, affecting his left leg. He is resting, but it is expected he will resume his geat in tho House of Representatives to-day.
