MINING NEWS WAIOTAHI.—The manager report?: The drive hillward for the WaiotahCambria reef 4ias been advanced eigh: feet for the week, and three sets of timber placed in position. The country being penetrated is still a hard grey anderitt. with a fairly strong flow of water making through the heads and joints of the rock strata. KURANUI.—The manager reports for the week ended August 6: The drive on leader near Shotover shaft has bee", driven 7ft. for the week, making a tota' of 31ft. from the crosscut. The lead*still looks very promising, but no goM has been seen. The rise on Hunt's reef has been advanced 6ft. for the week, making a total of 26ft. The reef still maintains its size, and shows some nice min*eral and silica. ALBURNIA.—The manager reports a? follows: The western crosscut has been extended from 271 ft. to 281 ft. The country passed through is much the same v last week, but the rock in slightly darker in colour, and a few more stringers are showing, carrying a good class of mineral. Stoping over the intermediate has been continued; most of the work durins the week has been prospecting in the hanging-wall side, of the reef. We find the reef here to be about 6ft .in width, composed mostly of leaders which range in width from 2in. to 9in. of quartz. Several of these leaders showed nice strong colours of gold, but as the footwaH portion shows the best values we propose to direct our attention to this part.
