ANNUAL MEETING WOMEN AS ELDERS (From Our Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, To-day. The annual meeting of St. James’s Presbyterian Church, Waihi, was held last night. The Rev. J. D. McFarlane presided over a large attendance. The balance-sheet showed a debit balance of £26, which was considered satisfactory in view of the hard times. The management committee elected consisted of Messrs. Brady, C. Dunstan, Hamilton, Mcßae, McKenzie, McLean, Rosborough, Spence, Timinns, Slaney, Smith and Simpson. The congregation by 21 votes to four decide to support a proposal to admit women to the eldership of the church, and instructed the Rev. J. D. McFarlane to support the proposal when it comes before the Waikato Presbytery. Opportunity was taken to make presentations to Mr. and Mrs. James Learmouth, prominent members of the church, who are leaving for Masterton. The Rev. J. D. McFarlane, in presenting Mr. Learmouth with a goldmounted fountain pen and Mrs. Learmonth with a travelling rug, referred to the many good qualities of the departing guests, and Mr. Learmouth suitably responded.
