NORTHCOTE IDENTITY DEAD
LATE MR. S. R. SPEIGHT A resident of Northcote for the past 20 years, Mr. Sidney Rhodes Speight died at the Auckland Hospital on Saturday at the age of 63. Mr. Speight was horn at Inverell, New South Wales, and educated in Sydney. Coming to Auckland twenty seven years ago, he was with the late Mr. Adolph Kohn, a Queen Street jeweller, for eight years He then started a busienss of his o\yn, continuing until three years ago. For ten years Mr. Speight was timekeeper for the Auckland Racing Club, and also held the same position for the Takapuna and Avondale Jockey Clubs for about 25 years. He was timekeeper for the Auckland Anniversary Regatta Committee for 20 years, and officiated at the annual Northcote and Birkenhead Regatta, as well as other fixtures. The yachts Reore and Minstrel were owned and sailed by him with much success.
Mr. Speight is survived by his Wife and a grown-up family of five sons and three married daughters.
