N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS

; GETTING VERY NEAR EFFORT TO SECURE VISITORS With the New Zealand golf championships less than two months away, and a resting place found for the Kirk-Windeyer Cup, the thoughts of golfers are now being turned in the direction of the championships, which commence at Hamilton on August 31. Since New Zealand’s victory in the Kirk-Windeyer Cup match, the performance of the team, the weak and strong points displayed by each individual player in their respective games, and every detail of play both in the doubles and the singles, has been the chief topic of conversation on the links and in and around club-houses. With the return of Mr. R. C. Kirk, chairman of the New Zealand Golf Council, and the captain of the Dominion team, Mr. A. D. S. Duncan, who brought with them the Kirk-Windeyer Cup, all members of the team are home again, and the next big event as far as the interest of Dominion golfers an i followers of the game is concerned is the championship meeting. At the New Zealand championships in the past, practically the only overseas golfers that have competed have been confined to players from Australia. This year, however, the Dominion Council hopes to attract players from further afield, if possible, and some three months ago forwarded to clubs throughout Great Britain, the U. States, Commonwealth of Australia, Dominion of Canada, the High Commissioner’s office, and other vantage points, circulars setting out details and conditions of the various championship events. This distribution of circulars overseas is an innovation as far as the council is concerned, and the members assume, and wisely assume, too, that perhaps a few players who may be contemplating a visit to the Dominion might thus be persuaded to take part in an overseas championship tourney. The entries from overseas close on August 17, and those within the Dominion some two days later.
